Target Information
Slug, a member of the Snail family of C2H2-type zinc finger transcription factors, is involved in epithelial-mesenchymal transitions and neural tube formation during vertebrate embryogenesis. Slug transcription can be induced by FGF, BMP, and TGF-beta, and it represses genes such as E-cadherin and Claudin-1. Its expression in breast, esophageal, and colorectal carcinomas correlates with poor prognosis. Slug also protects hematopoietic progenitor cells from radiation-induced apoptosis by repressing p53-mediated transcription of Puma.
