Target Information

ENT1 (SLC29A1) is a member of the equilibrative nucleoside transporter family. It encodes a transmembrane glycoprotein localized to plasma and mitochondrial membranes, mediating cellular uptake of nucleosides.
This transporter is sensitive to inhibition by nitrobenzylthioinosine and is essential for nucleotide synthesis in cells lacking de novo nucleoside synthesis pathways. It also facilitates uptake of cytotoxic nucleosides used in cancer and antiviral therapies. Multiple alternatively spliced variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
