Anti-GAPDH Antibody is directed against human GAPDH protein. A BLAST analysis suggests that this antibody reacts with GAPDH from a wide range of organisms, including most vertebrates and some yeast. Broad reactivity makes this antibody an excellent loading control.
Target Information
GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is a catalytic enzyme involved in glycolysis. It exists as a tetramer of identical 37-kDa subunits and catalyzes the reversible reduction of 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate in the presence of NADPH.
Beyond glycolysis, GAPDH is ubiquitously expressed and participates in diverse cellular processes such as:
- DNA replication and repair
- Nuclear RNA export
- Membrane fusion and microtubule bundling
- Apoptosis and neurodegenerative disease mechanisms
It interacts with proteins such as amyloid precursor protein (linked to Alzheimer’s disease) and Huntingtin (related to Huntington’s disease).
Due to its high expression in most tissues, GAPDH is widely used as a protein loading control in Western Blot analysis.
