Target Information
ADARB1 catalyzes the hydrolytic deamination of adenosine to inosine in double-stranded RNA (dsRNA), known as A-to-I RNA editing. This process can influence gene expression and function by:
- Altering codons and amino acid sequences in mRNA translation
- Modifying splice site recognition sequences in pre-mRNA splicing
- Affecting RNA stability and nuclease recognition
- Impacting RNA virus genome stability during replication
- Regulating microRNA production, targeting, or protein-RNA interactions
ADARB1 edits both viral and cellular RNAs, acting at multiple or specific sites. Known substrates include BLCAP, GRIA2, GRIK2, HTR2C, GABRA3, and KCNA1, leading to amino acid substitutions that modify protein function. It can exert proviral effects on HIV-1 replication through both editing-dependent and editing-independent mechanisms, and may inhibit cell proliferation and migration while stimulating exocytosis.
