Target Information

Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is a regulatory subunit that controls the interaction between actin and myosin downstream of the guanosine triphosphatase Rho.
RhoA, in its GTP-bound active form, interacts with MYPT1 to regulate phosphorylation of the myosin light chain (MLC), influencing smooth muscle contraction and actin-myosin interactions in nonmuscle cells.
Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase), activated by GTP-RhoA, phosphorylates MYPT1, inactivating myosin phosphatase. Overexpression of RhoA or activated RhoA increases phosphorylation of MYPT1 and MLC, indicating Rho-mediated inhibition of myosin phosphatase.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
