Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is one of the subunits of myosin phosphatase.
Myosin phosphatase regulates the interaction of actin and myosin downstream of the small GTPase Rho.
RhoA, in its active GTP-bound form, interacts with MYPT1 to regulate phosphorylation of myosin light chain (MLC).
Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase) phosphorylates MYPT1 and inactivates myosin phosphatase, leading to increased MLC phosphorylation and smooth muscle contraction.
Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
