Target Information
Cadherins are a family of Ca²⁺-dependent adhesion molecules that mediate cell-cell binding, critical for maintaining tissue structure and morphogenesis. Each cadherin contains a large extracellular domain with five homologous repeats; the most distal repeat contributes to binding specificity.
Cadherin-16 (Ksp-Cadherin) is a type I membrane protein specifically expressed in the kidney, localized to the basolateral membrane of renal tubular epithelial cells.
The human Cadherin-16 gene maps to chromosome 16q21–proximal 16q22, while the mouse homolog is located in a syntenic region of distal chromosome 8.
