Product Specific Information

PA1-738 detects synaptosomal-associated protein 23 (SNAP-23) from human, mouse, and rat samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot and immunoprecipitation procedures.
By Western blot, this antibody detects an approximately 23 kDa protein representing SNAP-23 from rat/mouse brain protein extract and HeLa cell lysates.

The immunizing peptide corresponds to amino acid residues 193–210 from mouse SNAP-23 protein.
PA1-738 immunizing peptide (Cat. # PEP-147) is available for use in neutralization and control experiments.


Target Information

Specificity of vesicular transport is regulated by the interaction between vesicle-associated membrane proteins (synaptobrevin/VAMP) and target membrane proteins (syntaxin).
Together with SNAP25, these proteins form a complex that acts as a binding site for the membrane fusion machinery.

Synaptobrevin/VAMP and syntaxin are involved in vesicular transport in most cells, while SNAP25 is largely brain-specific.
SNAP23, a homolog of SNAP25, is ubiquitously expressed and facilitates vesicle docking and fusion in other tissues.
It binds tightly to multiple syntaxins and synaptobrevins/VAMPs, acting as an essential component of the high-affinity receptor for membrane fusion machinery.
Two alternative transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
