Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is one of two human homologs of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Rad23, involved in nucleotide excision repair (NER). It complements the NER defect of xeroderma pigmentosum group C (XP-C) cell extracts and interacts with 3-methyladenine-DNA glycosylase (MPG), suggesting a role in DNA damage recognition in base excision repair. The N-terminal ubiquitin-like domain interacts with the 26S proteasome, indicating possible involvement in the ubiquitin-mediated proteolytic pathway.
