Target Information
The PTBP1 gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). These RNA-binding proteins form complexes with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA) and are involved in pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
PTBP1 contains four quasi-RNA recognition motif (RRM) domains that bind RNA, especially intronic polypyrimidine tracts required for pre-mRNA splicing. It may facilitate U2 snRNP binding to pre-mRNAs and is localized in the nucleoplasm and perinucleolar structures.
Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms.
