Product Specific Information

  • Specificity: Recognizes an epitope within the cysteine-rich region (amino acids 140–301) of the extracellular domain of the human insulin receptor alpha.

Target Information

Biological actions of insulin and IGF-1 are mediated by their respective receptor tyrosine kinases that regulate multiple signaling pathways through phosphorylation cascades.
Insulin/IGF-1 binding to the extracellular domain induces autophosphorylation of downstream target proteins.
Although the insulin receptor and IGF-1 receptor share structural similarities, differences in their ligand-binding and intracellular domains lead to distinct signaling outcomes.
Defects in the insulin receptor (IR) are associated with insulin resistance syndromes, while IGF-1R abnormalities may cause growth retardation. Both signaling pathways are also implicated in cancer development.
