Product Specific Information

  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
  • For formalin-fixed tissues, heat sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 min.

Target Information

The protein encoded by the classic MBP gene is a major constituent of the myelin sheath of oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells in the nervous system. MBP-related transcripts are also expressed in the bone marrow and immune system, derived from the long MBP gene (Golli-MBP) containing three upstream exons. Alternative splicing from Golli and MBP transcription start sites produces two sets of MBP-related transcripts and gene products:

  1. Golli-MBP transcripts – Contain three unique exons spliced in-frame with MBP exons, encoding hybrid proteins combining Golli and MBP amino acid sequences.
  2. Classic MBP transcripts – Contain only MBP exons, producing the well-characterized myelin basic proteins.

This conserved gene structure suggests that the MBP transcription unit is an integral part of the Golli transcription unit, important for gene regulation and function.
