Target Information
UCH-L5 (ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase isozyme L5), also known as UCH37, is a 329 amino acid protein that edits polyubiquitinated protein substrates.
UCH-L5 can rescue ubiquitinated proteins, including oncogenic proteins, from proteasomal degradation, potentially influencing tumor growth.
Associations with Smad7 enable UCH-L5 to upregulate TGFβ-dependent gene expression by deubiquitinating and stabilizing TGFβ RI.
Overexpression of UCH-L5 and related enzymes has been observed in cancer cell lines, suggesting potential therapeutic relevance.
Four isoforms of UCH-L5 exist due to alternative splicing.
