Target Information
This gene encodes the major vault protein (MVP), also known as lung resistance-related protein (LRP). Vaults are multi-subunit structures potentially involved in nucleo-cytoplasmic transport. MVP mediates drug resistance, possibly via a transport process, and is widely distributed in normal tissues. It is overexpressed in multidrug-resistant cancer cells, serving as a potential marker of clinical drug resistance. Two transcripts are produced using alternative exon 2 sequences, but both share the same open reading frame.
