Target Information
TCP-1 theta is the theta subunit of the CCT (chaperonin containing TCP1 complex), abundant in the eukaryotic cytosol. It is involved in the transport and assembly of newly synthesized proteins. Molecular chaperones assist in protein folding upon ATP hydrolysis, and TCP-1 theta may play a role in the assembly of the BBsome complex, which regulates transport vesicles to the cilia. It is also involved in the folding of actin and tubulin. The intact CCT complex consists of eight polypeptides forming a double ring structure and is essential for folding of the VHL tumor suppressor protein.
