Target Information

MAT1A catalyzes the formation of S-adenosylmethionine from methionine and ATP. Mutations in this gene cause methionine adenosyltransferase deficiency, which can lead to autosomal dominant persistent hypermethioninemia. The encoded enzyme (methionine adenosyltransferase I, alpha isoform) plays a key role in methyl group metabolism.
