Target Information
The complement factor C3 consists of an alpha and a beta chain and plays a central role in the complement cascade. It is a key component of the alternative pathway leading to the C3 convertase C3bBb, as well as the classical mannose-binding lectin pathway forming C4b2a. These convertases cleave C3 into C3a and C3b, which further degrade into C3d, C3g, and C3c. C3 acts as an acute phase protein produced by various tissues, including renal epithelial cells and hepatocytes.
