Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in tumor cells and plays a key role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK is associated with cell proliferation and cycle regulation.
c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development. Deregulated c-Myc expression can induce apoptosis in various cell types.
Antibodies against c-myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc epitope tags fused to amino- or carboxy-termini of target proteins.
Amplification of c-Myc has been observed in lung, breast, and colon carcinomas, while N-Myc amplification is common in neuroblastomas.
Translocation of the c-myc locus on chromosome 8 to immunoglobulin loci on chromosomes 14, 2, or 22 is described in Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell lymphoproliferative conditions.
Aberrant expression of c-myc occurs in various tumor types including colorectal, gastric, hepatic, ovarian, mammary, pulmonary, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
