Product Specific Information

Specificity: Epitope sequence EQKLISEEDL located in aa 410–419 of human c-Myc protein.

Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a crucial role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.

Phosphorylation of c-Myc at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK is functionally associated with cell proliferation and regulation. c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development.

The c-myc oncogene (p62 c-myc) regulates normal cellular proliferation and differentiation, while deregulated expression induces apoptosis in multiple cell types. Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc epitope tags at either terminal of target proteins.

c-Myc, N-Myc, and L-Myc proteins are involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and neoplastic disease. Amplification of the c-Myc gene has been observed in human tumors such as lung, breast, and colon carcinomas. N-Myc amplification is characteristic of neuroblastomas.

Translocation of the c-Myc locus on chromosome 8 to immunoglobulin loci on chromosomes 14, 2, or 22 is associated with Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders. Aberrant c-Myc expression is found in diverse tumors including colorectal, gastric, hepatic, mammary, ovarian, pulmonary, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
