Target Information

The protein encoded by the SEMG1 gene is the predominant protein in semen. It forms a gel matrix that encases ejaculated spermatozoa. The prostate-specific antigen (PSA) protease cleaves this protein into smaller peptides, each with potentially distinct functions. This proteolysis process breaks down the gel matrix, enabling spermatozoa to move more freely.
