Target Information
Calpastatin is an endogenous inhibitor of calpain, a calcium-dependent cysteine protease. It contains an N-terminal domain L and four repetitive calpain-inhibition domains (1–4). Calpastatin participates in proteolysis of amyloid precursor protein and various membrane fusion events such as neural vesicle exocytosis, platelet, and red-cell aggregation. It may also influence expression of structural or regulatory protein genes.
