Target Information

The PLA2G6 gene encodes an A2 phospholipase enzyme that catalyzes the release of fatty acids from phospholipids. This protein may be involved in phospholipid remodeling, arachidonic acid release, leukotriene and prostaglandin synthesis, Fas-mediated apoptosis, and transmembrane ion flux in glucose-stimulated β-cells.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described, with two full-length variants characterized to date.
