Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 중추신경계의 astrocyte와 astroglia에서 특이적으로 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포 및 비수초화 슈반세포에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포에서도 GFAP이 강하게 발현되며, astrocytic cell의 마커로 유용하게 사용됩니다. 많은 종류의 뇌종양에서도 GFAP의 높은 발현이 관찰됩니다. GFAP은 렌즈 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 타액선 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP은 발달 과정 중 astrocyte를 다른 glial cell과 구분하는 데 사용됩니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 중추신경계의 희귀 질환인 Alexander 병을 유발하며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 다양한 isoform을 생성합니다.
