Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 중추신경계의 astrocyte와 특정 astroglia, 말초신경계의 위성세포 및 비수초성 슈반세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 neural stem cell에서도 GFAP이 강하게 발현됩니다. GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 마커로 유용하며, 여러 종류의 뇌종양에서 GFAP 발현이 높게 나타납니다. GFAP은 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 발견됩니다. GFAP은 발달 과정에서 astrocyte를 다른 glial cell과 구분하는 데 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자 변이는 Alexander disease라는 희귀한 신경교세포 질환을 유발합니다. 대체적 스플라이싱으로 여러 isoform이 생성됩니다.
