Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열의 구성원으로, 주로 중추신경계의 성상교세포(astrocyte) 및 일부 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포(neural stem cell)에서도 GFAP 발현이 높습니다.
GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 마커로 매우 유용하며, astrocyte 유래 뇌종양에서 GFAP 발현이 높게 나타납니다.
GFAP는 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포, 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다.
GFAP는 신경계 발달 중 astrocyte와 다른 glial cell을 구분하는 데 사용되며, GFAP 유전자 변이는 희귀 신경질환인 Alexander disease를 유발합니다.
GFAP 유전자의 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 isoform을 생성하는 다양한 전사체 변이가 존재합니다.
