Target Information
Ribosomal Protein S20 (RPS20) is a 119 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that forms part of the 40S ribosomal subunit. It is co-transcribed with the small nucleolar RNA gene U54 and acts as a primary binding protein interacting with both the 5' and 3' minor domains of 16S rRNA. These interactions are critical for nucleating the assembly of the 30S ribosomal subunit. The RPS20 gene exists as multiple processed pseudogenes dispersed throughout the genome.
