이 유전자의 염색체 전좌는 여러 전사 인자 유전자와 융합되어 종양형성에 관여하는 키메라 단백질을 생성합니다.
이러한 키메라 단백질은 일반적으로 EWSR1의 N-말단 전사 활성화 도메인이 전사 인자의 C-말단 DNA 결합 도메인과 융합된 형태입니다.
EWSR1 유전자의 변이, 특히 전좌는 Ewing 육종, 신경외배엽성 및 기타 다양한 종양을 유발하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 전사체 변이가 생성되며, 관련 유사 유전자가 염색체 1과 14에서 확인되었습니다.
