Target Information
Visual pigments are light-absorbing molecules that mediate vision. They consist of an apoprotein (opsin) covalently linked to cis-retinal (Abs max = 530 nm).
The three color pigments are found in cone photoreceptor cells.
Opsins are phosphorylated on serine and threonine residues in the C-terminal region.
Defects in OPN1MW cause partial colorblindness of the deutan series (deuteranopia).
