Target Information
Visual pigments are the light-absorbing molecules that mediate vision. They consist of an apoprotein, opsin, covalently linked to cis-retinal.
- Abs(max) = 530 nm
- The three color pigments are found in cone photoreceptor cells.
- Phosphorylated on serine and threonine residues in the C-terminal region.
- Defects in OPN1MW cause partial colorblindness (deutan series, also called deuteranopia).
