Target Information
Visual pigments are the light-absorbing molecules mediating vision. They consist of an apoprotein (opsin) covalently linked to cis-retinal.
Abs(max) = 530 nm; three color pigments are found in cone photoreceptor cells.
Phosphorylation occurs on serine and threonine residues in the C-terminal region.
Defects in OPN1MW cause partial colorblindness (deutan series, CBD), also known as deuteranopia.
