Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the P-type cation transport ATPase family and the Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase subfamily. Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase is an integral membrane protein that maintains the electrochemical gradients of Na⁺ and K⁺ ions across the plasma membrane. These gradients are essential for osmoregulation, sodium-coupled transport of various molecules, and electrical excitability of nerve and muscle cells.
This enzyme consists of two subunits: a large catalytic subunit (alpha) and a smaller glycoprotein subunit (beta). The alpha subunit is encoded by multiple genes, and this gene encodes the alpha 1 subunit. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
