Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known for regulating programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, reversing their anti-apoptotic activity. Its pro-apoptotic function is controlled by phosphorylation, involving kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing produces two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
