Target Information
Inositol hexakisphosphate kinase family members, IP6K1 and IP6K2, have high affinity and selectivity for inositol hexakisphosphate (InsP6) as a substrate. These kinases convert InsP6 to PP-InsP5 and do not exhibit catalytic activity with other inositol pyrophosphates. InsP6 inhibits serine/threonine protein phosphatases and increases calcium influx across the plasma membrane, suggesting a role in insulin exocytosis regulation. IP6K1 and IP6K2 are characterized as approximately 54 kDa and 49 kDa proteins, respectively, and may function as high-energy phosphate donors through ATP synthase activity.
