Product Description

Parvovirus B19 was the first known human virus in the family of Parvoviruses. It is a non-enveloped, icosahedral virus containing a single-stranded linear DNA genome. Classified as an erythrovirus, it invades red blood cell precursors in bone marrow.
B19 causes a childhood rash called fifth disease (erythema infectiosum), commonly known as “slapped cheek” syndrome. Transmission occurs primarily via respiratory droplets, with some blood-borne cases reported.
In pregnant women, infection may cause hydrops fetalis and fetal anemia, sometimes leading to miscarriage or stillbirth. Rapid diagnostic methods are essential due to the severity of infection.
