Target Information
STAG3 is a meiosis-specific component of the cohesin complex. The cohesin complex is required for the cohesion of sister chromatids after DNA replication and forms a protein ring structure that traps sister chromatids. During anaphase, the complex is cleaved and dissociates from chromatin, allowing segregation. The meiosis-specific cohesin complex likely replaces the mitosis-specific one during prophase I.
