Target Information

Synaptotagmin 1 is a synaptic vesicle membrane glycoprotein widely expressed throughout the CNS and acts as the Ca²⁺ sensor in exocytosis and neurotransmitter release. It binds SNAP25 in a Ca²⁺-dependent manner, essential for membrane triggering. Specific residues in the C2B domain regulate endocytic rate and vesicle size. Synaptotagmin 1 interacts with acidic phospholipids and proteins such as neurexins, syntaxin, and AP2, both Ca²⁺-dependent and independent. Dysfunction is associated with food-borne and infant botulism.
