Target Information

This gene encodes a transcription factor originally identified as a mammalian DNA-binding protein that binds a tax-responsive enhancer element in the LTR of HTLV-1. It is also known as cAMP-response element binding protein 2 (CREB-2).
The encoded protein belongs to a family of DNA-binding proteins including AP-1, CREBs, and CREB-like proteins, sharing a leucine zipper region for protein-protein interactions and a basic domain for DNA binding.
Two alternative transcripts encoding the same protein have been described. Two pseudogenes are located on the X chromosome at q28 within a large inverted duplication region.
