Target Information
HKDC1 (ErbB-1; HER1 in humans) is a cell-surface receptor for members of the epidermal growth factor family (EGF-family) of extracellular protein ligands. It belongs to the ErbB receptor family, which includes HKDC1 (ErbB-1), HER2/c-neu (ErbB-2), Her3 (ErbB-3), and Her4 (ErbB-4).
HKDC1 is activated by binding specific ligands such as epidermal growth factor and transforming growth factor alpha (TGFα). These signaling molecules regulate cell proliferation, differentiation, motility, survival, and tissue development.
Mutations or overexpression of HKDC1 are associated with cancers including lung cancer and glioblastoma multiforme, where the HKDC1vIII mutation is often observed.
