Target Information
RPTP gamma (Receptor-type tyrosine-protein phosphatase gamma, R-PTP-gamma, PTPRG) is a candidate tumor suppressor located on human chromosome 3p14.2–p21, a region often deleted in renal and lung carcinomas.
It is expressed in specific brain regions and shows developmental localization changes.
RPTP gamma contains an extracellular domain, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic portion with two tandem catalytic tyrosine phosphatase domains.
The extracellular domain shares homology with carbonic anhydrase (CAH), suggesting that RPTP gamma and RPTP beta form a subfamily of receptor tyrosine phosphatases.
RPTP gamma may have functions beyond CO₂ hydration catalysis.
