Target Information
Serotonin plays a major role in cardiovascular function and gastrointestinal motility via several G protein-coupled receptors, known as 5-HT or SR receptors. The SR-2 receptor family includes three subtypes — SR-2A, SR-2B, and SR-2C — which activate phospholipase C and release intracellular calcium in response to serotonin.
SR-2A is involved in tracheal smooth muscle contraction, bronchoconstriction, aldosterone production, and is implicated in psychiatric disorders such as depression and schizophrenia.
SR-2B is expressed in cardiovascular tissues, gut, and brain, contributing to cardiac pathology.
SR-2C may mediate effects of atypical antipsychotic drugs.
