Target Information

Protocadherin 1 (PCDH1), also known as cadherin-like protein 1, is a transmembrane protein involved in cell-cell adhesion. It belongs to the delta1-protocadherin family, which includes protocadherin-1, -7, -9, and -11(X/Y). These proteins have seven extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic domain, and can be expressed in two isoforms (short or long).

Expression of PCDH1 is temporally and spatially regulated and plays a role in both early development and mature tissues. In mice, it is expressed in the brain, spinal cord, peripheral ganglia, inner ear, hair follicles, kidney, reproductive organs, prostate, and seminal gland. PCDH1 is also a susceptibility gene for bronchial hyperresponsiveness in humans and is expressed on human pluripotent stem cells.
