Product Specific Information

This antibody is specific for murine CD86, an ~80 kDa surface receptor of the B7 family of costimulatory molecules. Along with CD80, CD86 serves as a counter-receptor for T cell surface molecules CD28 and CD152 (CTLA-4). This interaction is crucial for T-B cell communication, T cell costimulation, autoantibody production, and Th2-mediated Ig production.

Target Information

CD86 is one of two ligands (the other being CD80) for CTLA4 and CD28. It acts as a costimulatory molecule facilitating T-cell help during antigen presentation. Insufficient co-stimulation involving CD86/CD80 can lead to immune tolerance. CD86 is a type I membrane protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily, expressed by antigen-presenting cells. It interacts with CD28 and CTLA-4 on T cells to regulate activation and immune response. Alternative splicing generates multiple transcript variants of CD86. Dysfunction of CD86 has been associated with diseases such as gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma and myocarditis.
