Target Information
Potassium channels are ubiquitously expressed proteins that serve multiple functions in excitable and non-excitable cells. The large conductance, calcium-activated potassium channel (Maxi K⁺) is controlled by both intracellular calcium increases and membrane depolarization. Its structure includes a voltage sensor and an intracellular calcium-binding domain. In vascular smooth muscle, a beta-subunit associates in a 1:1 ratio, reducing the calcium concentration required to open the channel by 5–10 fold.
