Target Information
Action potentials in vertebrate neurons are followed by an afterhyperpolarization (AHP) that may persist for several seconds and influence neuronal firing patterns.
Each component of the AHP is kinetically distinct and mediated by different calcium-activated potassium channels.
The KCNN1-encoded protein is activated before membrane hyperpolarization and contributes to the slow component of synaptic AHP, regulating neuronal excitability.
It is an integral membrane protein forming a voltage-independent, calcium-activated channel with three calmodulin-binding subunits.
KCNN1 belongs to the KCNN family of potassium channels.
