Target Information
NeuroD1 is a transcriptional activator functioning as a differentiation factor during neurogenesis. It binds to the insulin gene E-box, requiring dimerization with another bHLH protein for efficient DNA binding. Mutations in NEUROD1 are associated with maturity onset diabetes of the young type VI (MODY6), characterized by autosomal dominant inheritance, early adult onset, and defective insulin secretion.
