This antibody recognizes and binds the SARS-CoV-2 C-terminal receptor binding domain (RBD) located in the extracellular portion of the spike protein.
Target Information
SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV (2019 Novel Coronavirus), causes illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death.
The CoV Spike (S) protein is essential for viral attachment, fusion, and entry, making it a key target for antibody, inhibitor, and vaccine development.
The receptor-binding domain (RBD, S-RBD) binds strongly to human and bat angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors. SARS-CoV-2 RBD shows significantly higher binding affinity to ACE2 than SARS-CoV RBD.
The S1 subunit contains the RBD that specifically binds to ACE2 receptors on target cells.
