Target Information

This gene encodes an RNA-binding protein belonging to the c-myc gene single-strand binding protein family. These proteins contain two sets of ribonucleoprotein consensus sequences (RNP-CS) with conserved motifs RNP1 and RNP2, essential for DNA binding. They are involved in DNA replication, gene transcription, cell cycle progression, and apoptosis.
The protein binds to an upstream element of the alpha2(I) collagen promoter and localizes mainly in the cytoplasm, suggesting a role in RNA metabolism rather than transcription. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
