Target Information
PROZ (Protein Z) is a vitamin K-dependent plasma glycoprotein (62 kDa, 396 amino acids). It contains four domains: a Gla-rich region, two EGF-like domains, and a trypsin-like domain. Although structurally related to serine proteases (factors VII, IX, X, and protein C), it lacks catalytic serine residue and is inactive enzymatically. PROZ functions as part of the coagulation cascade, facilitating degradation of factor Xa via protein Z-related protease inhibitor (ZPI). Deficiency may be linked to thrombosis or bleeding tendencies. Its activity is impaired under warfarin therapy.
