Target Information
The munc-18 interacting protein (Mint) family consists of adaptor proteins involved in membrane transport and organization.
In mammals, three isoforms exist: Mint1, Mint2, and Mint3.
- Mint1 and Mint2 are expressed exclusively in the brain and bind Munc18, a key component of synaptic vesicle fusion.
- Mint3 is ubiquitously expressed, least in brain and testis, and does not interact with Munc18.
Mint3 interacts with the Alzheimer’s Disease-related amyloid precursor protein (APP) via PTB and PDZ domains, linking APP to transport machinery and regulating its metabolism.
Abnormal APP metabolism is associated with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
