Target Information

The protein encoded by the CPOX gene is the sixth enzyme in the heme biosynthetic pathway. It is a soluble enzyme located in the mitochondrial intermembrane space and catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of coproporphyrinogen III to protoporphyrinogen IX, a heme precursor.
Defects in this gene cause hereditary coproporphyria (HCP).
